The short answer

Who owns ibis hotels?

Accor. ibis, ibis Styles and ibis budget are brands of the French hotel group Accor, which opened the first ibis in Bordeaux in 1974; most ibis hotels belong to franchisees who pay Accor for the brand.

ibis was created by Accor's founders Paul Dubrule and Gérard Pélisson, who had opened the first Novotel in 1967. The first ibis opened in Bordeaux in 1974 as Europe's first economy hotel brand. In 2012 Accor grouped ibis with All Seasons (now ibis Styles) and Etap Hotel (now ibis budget) into one ibis family.

At the end of June 2026 the family counted 2,509 hotels and 290,590 rooms (ibis 1,211 hotels, ibis Styles 708, ibis budget 590), about a third of Accor's 881,928 rooms, and in April 2024 it was present in 79 countries.

Accor owns almost none of these hotels: about three quarters of ibis family hotels are franchised and most of the rest are managed for their owners, so Accor earns brand, management and booking fees rather than room revenue. Accor does not publish ibis revenue on its own.
