The short answer

Who owns X (formerly Twitter)?

SpaceX. X has been part of SpaceX since 2 February 2026, when SpaceX acquired xAI, the AI company that had taken over X in March 2025.

Twitter was a listed company until October 2022, when an entity owned by Elon Musk bought it for $54.20 a share in cash, a deal Twitter valued at about $44 billion. Twitter was renamed X in July 2023.

On 28 March 2025, Musk's AI company xAI acquired X Holdings, the owner of X. On 2 February 2026, SpaceX acquired xAI, so Grok and X became part of SpaceX.

SpaceX now reports X inside its AI business, called Super Intelligence (SI) from the third quarter of 2026. It does not publish X's revenue or users on their own: advertising across X and Grok came to $1.84 billion in 2025.
